After repairs got safely to Emma Villa Ryton on Tyne where my sister lives. They expected me, and were looking out.
A couple of days after, went with Joe Shippen to see the sports at North Durham Grounds Gateshead, saw Childs riding; some bad smashes.
Rode from the railway bridge at Stocksfield Station to the Wesleyan Chapel on top of the hill at Emma Villa in 19 ½ minutes. A devil of a tough road with big hills the wrong way on. Reckoned to be 8 miles.
Had a ride around by Gosforth, the Moor and along the Carlisle Road by Heddon on the Wall, down to Wylam and over the Tyne, accompanied by Joe. Stopped to see the site of the old house beside the school. Had a talk with schoolmaster about Isaac Jacksons famous clock. Rode down to Uncle Ridley at Radcliffe, via Morpeth. I found Ridley with two ribs broken, by a bicycle accident. Met cousin Tilbury Wright.
Left again on Friday after a stay of five days. Called to see Uncle George Stevenson at Gateshead, saw Aunt Meggywho died shortly after I left for the South.
George rode over to Newcastle with me to see more friends. Met cousin Ethel Wright; Jolene is away to Rothbury. Saturday I went over to Victoria Garesfield to see some of my old friends.
Sunday, George rode up from Gateshead and we walked over to Wylam, my birthplace.
Monday, left for home at 4.30am went back by another route via Unthank, Pierce Bridge, Leeming Lane and on to the main road south at Boroughbridge. I got the wrong road and passed within a short distance of the Consett Ironworks, and was three hours late reaching Boroughbridge 80 miles, had 40 miles of heavy rain.
