| Dec for a few days | 1897 | Leasing machines at the Violet G[old]. M[ine]. with Tom Anderson Violet is now part of West Rand G[old] Mines |
| Dec | 1897 | Sinking for a week in small shaft [illegible] West then took Sick |
| Jan | 1898 | Went to Jobg [Johannesburg] Hospital with fever (enteric) for a fortnight |
| About 15th January 30th January | 1898 1898 | Came out of hospital and started driving with machines at Aurora Aurora West G[old]. M[ine]. (same night) [illegible] Walker partner |
| 1st Feb 30th May | 1898 1898 | Started work at Champ de Or G. M. stoping with boys J Sewell Mine Capt[ain] |
| 1st June 30th January | 1898 1899 | Started at Luipaards Vlei driving and rising with machines. J Sewell Mine Capt[ain] |
