1910 Continued

18th May Krugersdorp

Whilst sitting with my wife in Geo Norton’s tearooms at 5pm, I noticed that the light of day suddenly darkened many degrees. I went outside but could see no fog, and commented upon it. I came to the conclusion we were passing through the tail of Halley's Comet which was due to occur that day, but astronomers say we did not pass through the tail. (We saw the Comet for many weeks, becoming grander every night). On the morning of 17th at 5am, the tail was grand; (in the east). On the morning of 18th only the end furthest from the Comet was visible, ^the rest being below the horizon and on the evening of 20th it was seen in the west for the first time, but only an end view the Comet being furthest away, proving we had passed through it only a few hours before darkness on the 18th.
